About the Random Country Wheel

Every country in the world is already on this wheel, so there is nothing to type in before you spin. It holds 197 entries: the 193 UN member states, plus Vatican City and Palestine, which hold UN observer status, plus Taiwan and Kosovo. That completeness is the whole point. Plenty of tools that promise every country quietly ship a shortlist of forty popular destinations instead, so the slice counter above the list tells you exactly how many countries are loaded at any moment. If a full atlas draw is more than you need, the continent filter narrows the wheel to Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America or Oceania.

In a classroom, the wheel doubles as a flag trainer. Each result appears with the country's flag as a bundled SVG rather than an emoji, so it renders identically on Windows, macOS, Android and iOS instead of turning into a grey box on whichever machine the projector is plugged into. Flag quiz mode hides the name until someone presses Reveal country, which turns a spin into a guessing round. Switch on remove-after-spin and the wheel works through a region without repeats, so a class can cover all 54 African countries in one session without drawing Kenya three times. Outside school it mostly gets used to settle where to travel — spin the whole world, or filter to the region you have already agreed on. Every slice is the same size, so each country has an even chance on every spin, and you can share a configured wheel by link or embed it in your own page.

Frequently asked questions

How many countries are on the wheel?+

197 by default, with no shortlist: the 193 UN member states, plus Vatican City and Palestine, which hold UN observer status, plus Taiwan and Kosovo. The slice count sits above the country list, so you can confirm the full set is loaded before you spin.

Are territories and dependencies included?+

No. The wheel contains sovereign countries only, so places like Puerto Rico, Greenland, Hong Kong, Bermuda and Scotland are deliberately left off — otherwise the count would run past 250 and stop being a wheel of countries. If you want one of them, add it yourself with the 'Add choice' box in the sidebar and it joins the wheel immediately.

Can I spin only one continent?+

Yes. Use the continent filter above the country list to switch the wheel to Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America or Oceania, and it will only spin countries from that region. Press 'All 197' to load the whole world back onto the wheel.
