Direction Wheel Spinner

Which way should you go? Let the direction wheel decide. This random compass covers all eight compass points, from North to North-West. It's perfect for outdoor games, treasure hunts, decision-making or adding a twist of chance to your next adventure. Just spin and follow where the wheel points.

How to Use the Direction Wheel

  1. Click the wheel or the Spin button.
  2. Watch the wheel land on one of the eight compass directions.
  3. Head that way – literally or figuratively.

You can edit the wheel in the Choices panel: remove diagonals to keep only North, South, East and West, or add your own options like "Stay put" or "Spin again".

Before an outdoor activity, decide what each result means and where players may go. Set a clear boundary, choose a safe meeting point and agree on a time to return. The wheel is a random picker, not a compass or navigation aid: it does not detect which way your phone is facing or check whether a route is safe. Use a real map or compass when you need to orient yourself, and ignore any result that would lead into traffic, private property or unsafe terrain.

For indoor games, mark North on your board or floor plan before the first spin. Then everyone interprets the same direction consistently. If you are using a square grid, agree whether a diagonal move counts as one step or two. Clear rules make a random movement game easier to follow.

Fun Ways to Use the Direction Spinner

  • Random walk or hike: Spin the wheel at every crossroads and see where you end up.
  • Treasure hunts: Let the wheel decide which direction the next clue hides in.
  • Board games and RPGs: Use it as a random direction generator for movement, wind or scatter rolls.
  • PE and playground games: Kids spin and run, hop or skip in the chosen direction.
  • Photo challenge: Spin for a direction and photograph the most interesting thing you find that way.

For a treasure hunt, prepare clues in safe, accessible locations and limit the wheel to directions with a valid next clue. For playground games, let an adult set the boundaries and use short movements so nobody leaves the activity area. In a tabletop adventure, the result can describe wind, a drifting object or a creature's next move without anyone travelling outdoors. A photo challenge can work from one fixed spot: look in the selected direction and find a detail worth capturing. Adjust the choices to fit your setting rather than treating a spin as an instruction you must obey.
